AGITATION PRIOR TO APPLICATION
Components that make up liquid paint formulations will settle.
Various weights of the ingredients will need agitation prior to adding paints to spray application equipment and also prior to adding activators or hardeners.

The most common way to effectively agitate paint is with a mechanical paint shaker.
Pneumatic shakers are very popular and can be both inexpensive and effective.
While some pneumatic shakers can cost $500 and up, some versions are available at
discount tool stores or online stores for under $200.
While these less expensive units will work, longevity will typically come with spending a bit more.
“We typically will shake our thin film ceramics for 10-15 minutes on our shakers. Some paints have a heavier solid load that tend to settle more”
- Casey Mason, Production manager, MASIC Industries
Straining the coating with wire mesh after agitation is also imperative.
This is typically done while pouring paint out of the bottle or can and into a mixing cup.
This ensures that the coating being prepared for application is free of any residual ingredients that may not have been fully mixed during agitation.
